lawrence jones shot a coworker at a chicken processing plant yesterday morning. investigators say he moved methodically around the building and targeted certain victims and then walked out of the building and killed himself. -- police say 42-year-old lawrence jones shot a coworker. one week after the storm hit, some are bracing for another storm. this nor'easter that is moving in is not expected to be nearly as bad as sandy. colorado and washington have become the first states to legalize recreational marijuana and medical marijuana was legalized in massachusetts. but in oregon, the measure was turned down by voters. opponents say the legalization sets back drug reform in the united states. one of the closest watched senate races was in missouri where claire mccaskill won re-

little wintertime. 41 right now in washington. 37 at dulles. 38 at bwi marshall. all right. this area of low pressure, this nor'easter we've been talking about for the past week, it feels like a week, ever since sandy finally starting to develop and there you can see some rain showers and some pretty good rain down across the lower eastern shore. lots of clouds around here and some of those are trying to sneak to the north. the storm lifts to the north. some of that banding, some of the western edge of the precipitation will sort of roll back towards the washington area. and generally speaking, there will be a real tight gradient here where we get nothing but clouds and might see a little rain or snow. we think the line will line up along the 95 corridor. the best chance for seeing some winter weather will be washington and points north and east. when you get up into baltimore and northeast maryland, there is a winter weather advisory. they have the best chance of some accumulating snow. around here, you might so some snowflakes flying this afternoon. if you are up towards columbia,

obama managed to prevail in most of those hard-fought swing states and that made the difference sending him back to the oval office for four more years. obama spoke in his hometown of chicago. he told supporters he knows the path ahead is not easy yet, he still believes america has a better future. >> but despite all our differences, most of us share certain hopes for america's future. we want our kids to grow up in a country where they have access to the best schools and the best teachers, a country that lives up to its legacy as the global leader in technology and discovery and innovation. >> reporter: he also thanked vice president biden and former president bill clinton for all their hard work on the campaign trail. a different scene in boston as mitt romney stood before a

disappointed crowd. his concession speech was brief and heartfelt. >> the nation as you know is at a critical point. at a time like this, we can't risk partisan bickering and political posturing. our leaders have to reach across the aisle to do the people's work. we citizens have to rise to the occasion. >> reporter: paul ryan returns to the senate as the chairman of the budget committee. it is not clear what mitt romney will do after two up successful runs at the presidency. president obama returns to office with a deeply divided nation and government. thank you. now to maryland where voters weighed in on seven key ballot questions. >> some were controversial to say the very least. question six, legalizing same- sex marriage passed with about

25 five 2% 2 -- with about 52% of the vote. >> we have made phone calls for hours on end. we didn't think we could win and we won. and we won maryland. and that is amazing. >> maryland really spoke out for the country tonight. it is not just the legislature. it is the people speaking. they are saying we support you and we believe that you are like everybody else. >> on some of the other ballot questions in maryland, voters passed question seven allowing expanded gambling in the state with 52% in favor and 48% opposed. ette voters gave the okay if a new congressional map by

expecting even thinking it could drag on for days on end. >> at least we have some kind of closure. >> we want to focus on virginia now. virginia democrat tim kaine won last night beating republican george allen w. >> allen conceded the race late last night and we'll get more on that coming up a little later on in a live report from arlington. very interesting. ben cardin won in maryland as well. so he won with 54% of the vote. so yeah, so very interesting. >> democrats keeping control of the senate. again, they are 54% to 27% for dan bongino but he also beat rob sobhani who came in third with 17%. and historic night in maryland that set off fireworks literally. up next, we'll continue our post-election coverage with a live report from national

welcome back. we are taking a live look over the capitol dome this morning. very appropriate the morning after the election where the majority has not changed for the senate and the house. so the make-up is still the same. of course, the democrats retaining the majority in the senate and the republicans in the house. so we'll continue to follow up on the election coverage here in just a bit but we want to check in with tucker barnes because he is following something we also need to pay attention to, weather. we have this storm moving in. jaw, sliding up the eastern seaboard. it will intensify during the course of the day. it won't be a huge weather maker locally but the further east you get and north and east, up into new york and new jersey, they'll get hit hard are heavy rain.

let's get to to. temperatures are now in the 30s. 36 in gaithersburg. 37 in manassas. here in town, we are at 41 degrees. not getting a report out of leonardtown or across the bay here. temperatures plenty chilly out there this morning and the cloud cover starting to build in and we'll get a bit of a northerly wind here today and that is setting the stage for possible -- a little bit of winter weather around here as we get into the afternoon and evening hours. let me show you the storm developing right here and again, it will continue to intensify. the area of low pressure right there and it will continue to intensify throughout the day today. as we get into the afternoon hours, the storm will start to press to our north. some of the spiral bands of the storm will start to push back towards the washington area. so you want to think about this. washington, points north and east, stand the best chance for winter weather around here. as you get up towards laurel, up towards baltimore, up into the philadelphia area, they could be looking at

accumulating snow. if you are west of 95, you won't see much. anything. the bands won't get far enough west. it looks like rain transitioning to snow later this afternoon. could we get a little accumulation around here? yes, it is possible on the grassy surfaces. certainly a possibility we could get enough around here that we could get a light accumulation on some of the grassy surfaces. there is a winter weather advisory to the north and to the east so baltimore, baltimore county, as you get up into northeast maryland, a winter weather advisory. there could be an inch or two of slushy snow here north and east. if you are headed up 95, driving later today, be ready for the possibility. a little further south and west, i don't think we'll see a whole lot around here but it could get a little scenic later this afternoon. forecast high, only 42 degrees. the winds will shift out of the north at 10 to 15. that will lock in the cold and transition any rain we see over to cold later today. cloudy and cold rain changing to snow later this afternoon.

a light accumulation is possible. best chance will be north and east of the city. here is your accu-weather seven- day forecast. we'll get it out of here tomorrow but it will be windy and cold tomorrow with highs only about 50 and a pretty good wind behind that front. nice warm-up here. look like we get a nice taste of warmer weather here by the end of the weekend. 65 by monday and tuesday. let's do some traffic and get the latest from julie wright. it is not a panic situation but could be a few snow showers later today. >> i don't know. i'm going to go back. on the roads, it is dry pavement you are waking up so not too busy. we do have lingering construction here. the crew still here tying up the right side of the roadway. obviously, not too many people out and about so not something

that you will roll up on at speed. northbound i-95, a different story, a better ride for you. no problems to report in the exlanes or main lines as you continue out of woodbridge and continue up to the occoquan. light traffic volume here as welcoming in from manassas. no trouble spots to report continuing in towards center veil and making your way out towards fair oaks. that's a check of your fox 5 on-timetraffic. imetraffic. >> thank you. talk about the election now. president obama won maryland and its 10 electoral votes. voters in the free state also weighed in on seven key ballot questions. >> three of the more cop ten schuss questions all passed including an expansion of gambling. fox 5's holly morris is live at national harbor where it appears a new casino will be built and a lot of people are excited about that. good morning to you. >> reporter: there are a lot of people that are excited but it wasn't necessarily a landslide in terms of how the vote came out in term of question seven. it is likely that the casino will be built here at national

harbor where we are live this morning. at this hour, it is very quiet here but it was a much different store yea last night. when it became clear that question seven was indeed going to pass, the skies lit up, literally. fireworks exploded across the harbor here looking almost more like july 4th than election night but definitely a sign that the people in this area are happy with how the vote went. this will likely be decided that the sixth casino will be built in the state. that in addition to the game tabled. it wasn't a wide margin it terms of the vote count t passed 52% to 48%. nonetheless, it was a win and both the governor and the prince george's county executive were very happy with

the outcome. >> money is going to education and going to help fix 210. it is going to jobs and jobs and jobs. so thank you for the great victory. >> given the a dollars otherwise that would leave our state to go to other states in gambling, so keeping those dollars here to help maryland schools i think on balance is a better thing to do. >> reporter: the three other big questions or i should say three other questions that were big issues on the ballot including question six that would legalize gay marriage. it passed also with a percentage of 52% to 48%. question four dealt with in- state tuition being given to illegal immigrants that qualified. it passed with a little wider margin. 58% of marylanders voted for it. 42% against. question five which dealt with congressional redistricting sending a seventh democrat to

the house of representatives passed with a more decided vote, 63% of marylanders voted for that while 37% voted against. that is the wrap from maryland for now. back to you in the studio. >> thank you. let's move to virginia now where democrat tim kaine won last night beating republican george allen. >> allen conceded the race late last night and for more on what was happening in the commonwealth of virginia, we turn to sherry ly live in arlington this morning. good morning. >> good morning. tim kaine rode the coattails of president obama to win that senate seat in virginia although there are some that say president obama may have rode tim kaine's coattails. either way, he defeated his republican challenger, jim allen, to take that senate seat. the former governor and democratic national committee chairman keeps the virginia senate seat in democrat inhands. cape takes that seat vacate by fellow democrat jim webb in

what had been a tightly contested race with allen. the two candidates had battled in the swing state in one of the most expensive senate races in the country. more than $83 million was spent in this race. this race. >> here what is it means. our victory tonight proves that it is the number of people who stand with you, not the number of zeros behind the check. the that is what decides elections in the united states of america. >> reporter: allen did concede that race late last night. it is the second straight loss for allen. the republican was unseated from the senate by webb just six years ago. that is the latest here in arlington. back to you. >> thank you so much. we still have plenty ahead. up next, we'll take a look at

keep his seat but it looks like michael brown has lost his. brown was beat by david grosso for the second at-large spot. >> the other contest the races were in wards seven and eight. yvette alexander hold her seats in ward seven fending off a challenge from republican ron moten. and marion barry returns to the council to represent ward eight taking 87% of the vote in his race. let's get some more numbers on some of the d.c. council races if we could right now. d.c. voters also had some ballot amendments to decide on, all stemming from recent ethics scandals. >> all three amendments passed by an overwhelming majority. amendment five will allow the counsel till silver hill to kick out a member if they committed gross misconduct while in office. -- will allow the council to kick out a member if they committed gross misconduct while in office. in office.

methodically around the building and targeted certain victims. >> it is very scary. it is very surreal to see a crime actually happen in front of you. >> it is difficult to say at this point if, in fact, there was a specific target that jones was looking for. he had been inside about 3 1/2 hours. there was something that must have provoked this incident that perhaps occurred today or maybe was building up to today. >> after the shootings, jones walked out of the building and shot himself. he died several hours later. police say he had an extensive criminal history. voters in new york braved freezing temperatures to cast their ballots yesterday. some had to vote in tents that were used as polling places. the makeshift polling locations were set up in those hard-hit areas of queens and staten island. sandy knocked out power to millions of people and this morning, the northeast is now bracing for another storm with officials urging storm victims to seek higher ground. but the nor'easter that is moving in will not be a
